Welcome!

This site is dedicated to promoting henna body art as an art form, and to passing this culture around for anyone to sample for themselves.

Public classes are now being offered in Elizebeth's home once a month. Email or call (912) 655-2483 to reserve your space now before the class fills up!

Henna is a plant whose leaves have properties that allow them to easily stain skin, hair, nails, and other organic items. It has been used for centuries as a form of temporary body art in the desert areas of Africa, India, and the Middle East, and has recently gained popularity in Europe and the Americas.

Although it is likely that henna use started as a way to keep a desert dweller's body temperature down, it has evolved into an incredibly intricate art form. Each culture it met with adapted their own methods for applying it, as well as different styles and usages.

If you would like a more scientific explanation on how henna works, you may want to take a look at "About Henna."

Many photos on this website are taken while the henna paste is still on the skin. This may give the appearance of a black design, but our artists only use natural henna, which leaves a reddish-brown stain. Please do not use what people call "black henna," or allow anyone to apply it to you. To learn more about the dangers of "black henna," please visit this website: http://hennatribe.com/pp
